Marge Hicke [ continued ]
I began my college education at the University of Detroit, but interrupted it to follow the path of wife and mother, which had been my dream from the time I was very young. I learned about parenting and relationships first hand, as I participated in the ever-evolving creation of my family of six children.
When they reached adulthood, I set out to follow my next dream, that of being a therapist (a dream conceived in my kitchen as I listened to friends and neighbors and helped them on their journeys and as I worked with children). I completed a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science, a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology and received my license as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Manifesting these dreams has led me to the paths of maintaining a private practice, being a school counselor, educating, writing and publishing, which converge to allow me to empower, inspire and support the journey of those whose lives intersect with mine.
Allow me to expand. In my private practice I have clients who range upward from the very young. They come individually, in groups, in families and as couples. They come to heal their woundedness, because they are overwhelmed with their lives and to learn new skills for personal growth. Since I believe in the inherent power of people to grow and heal, I see myself, not as the expert with the answers, but as facilitator, an ally, one who assists in the search for answers. To this end, I provide a gentle, compassionate, and confidential setting for my clients to explore the challenges of their lives.
I am privileged to participate in the journeys of my clients. Being a therapist involves my whole person. The integration of my intuitive wisdom, spirituality, and problem solving skills has led to my development as a highly creative therapist, author and speaker. I am happiest when I am providing an opportunity for others to become aware of their talents and capabilities and facilitating the development of these strengths, thus validating and honoring each person's unique place in the world. I love being involved in the many facets of my profession!
