Parenting

Parenting is one of the most influential jobs a person can hold. And, certainly, the one for which there is the least training! Nor can there be definitive training, because each parent has a unique personality, as does each child. Consequently, what works sometimes with some children, won't necessarily work at other times with the same child or with a different child!

My expertise in working with parent and child issues is both educational and experiential. I was privileged, when going to school, to work at the Speech, Hearing and Neurosensory Center at Children's Hospital and Health Center. There I developed an extensive background and interest in working with people with special needs, including developmental, speech and physical challenges. I was able to attend trauma team meetings and work with children and adults who had experienced head traumas. My experience provided a firm foundation in the developmental process. I am also well-versed in adoption and fertility issues, along with the normal day-to-day ups and downs of parenting young children and adolescents. My training in non-verbal modalities, such as art and play therapy, provides the basis for my work with children, adolescents and families.

Brainstorming with parents to discover the processes of their styles and personalities and those of their children ignites my creative spirit. I bring to that table a gifted awareness of the developmental processes, life issues and specific behaviors that enables me to facilitate their discovery of fresh insights into their family. Our work leaves parents renewed and validated on their journey.
